Years after the launch of the first Mad Rock rubber formula, our new Science Friction 3.0 compound marks a special milestone for the Mad Rock brand. After exhaustive research and a new production process originating in the USA, our new formula has distinctively different characteristics than our previous batches. More durable than any of our previous formulas with higher friction. An optimal balanced new mix by increasing the tear strength and the memory of the compound. The new Science Friction 3.0 formula is used on our shoe components like the 3D Hooking Heel, 3D Concave Sole as well as the soles in all of our rock shoes.
In addition to the new formula for the sole and components of our new 2013 line, the new Science Friction formula is also used into our new rand rubber mix. Higher friction and durability for the rand rubber is a testament to our commitment to performance and improvement in our rock shoe line. Enhancing the elasticity of the rand rubber was also a priority when developing the rand rubber. As our new Science Friction R2 has greater give, without the loss of performance, it makes all of our rock shoes incredibly comfortable and sensitive, giving you that glove-like fit.
Our Perma rubber formula is created to last as long as possible while still maintaining friction properties like traditional climbing grade rubber. The rubber used for our rentals can come in various colours for non-marking performance as well as to distinguish it from our regular Science Friction 3.0 formula.
Mad Rock’s innovative and patented Concave Sole allows climbers to utilise their feet as they would their hands. Concave Soles are optimal for grabbing at holds while climbing on overhangs, and also help to create a sharper edge and better support for standing on tiny holds and edges.
Our engineers have devised a way to make sticky climbing-grade rubber flow into the moulds. It’s the first time this technology is utilised for the entire toe box of a climbing shoe. Using this method has many benefits for climbing. While downturned shoes are prone to delamination or will lose their downturn shape over time, it will not happen with this toe moulded box. Also, the foot has less material between it and the rock for greater sensitivity and the ability to articulate the shoe for better grip. In addition, this reduces the waste when constructing climbing shoes as almost the exact amount of material needed to create the moulded parts. Less labour, less waste means a more sustainable method for creating climbing shoes.

By utilizing our 1.8 mm thick R2 rand rubber formula, the Arch Flex system gives our high-performance shoes an unbelievable comfortable, but glove-like fit. The elastic property in our R2 formula hugs and locks your foot into place without the pain associated with other high-performance shoes.
The best hooking heel ever created. With help from our team of athletes around the world, we’ve designed a heel cup that will hook, smear, jam, or lock better than any other heel design out there. Our new 3D Moulded Heel Cup features grooves to improve hooking ability and ensures that your heel won’t pop off of your project. As with any of our other features, we never skimp on materials by manufacturing with non-climbing grade rubber.
One of our newest moulded heel cups is the expandable heel cup. This 3D heel has been updated to fit almost any heel. The thin construction increases the versatile fit, sensitivity and optimal smearing.
Constructed with super sticky rubber, our latest heel tensioning system for the Redline gives you unparalleled sensitivity along with enough power for any heel hook. The moulded heel piece is connected to the lacing system, which provides control over volume and tension.
Another technological first in our industry, the 3D moulded Toe Cap eliminates the seam where delamination can occur while providing an extra layer of protection for durability. The sticky grey rubber is a good indicator of when resoling will be needed as the black rand rubber below begins to show and helps to prevent marks on climbing surfaces.
Through the use of our new rubber impregnation technology, the Power Upper is thin, light, sensitive and ultra sticky. The two-way stretch characteristic of our material provides more room in the toe box while reducing lateral stretch when worn.
Our AES midsoles utilise 3D moulded polycarbonate material to maintain its shape throughout the life of the shoe. It also provides a predictable and consistent flex throughout its lifespan without sacrificing sensitivity. Due to its stiffness, we were able to incorporate this new midsole material in conjunction with our 3D moulded rubber sole to increase performance and stability while minimising the thickness of both. Our AES consists of 3 midsole shapes to control flex and edging.
